I’ve been building websites for clients for 6 years now. It’s something i’ve alway enjoyed hugely, but i didn’t find it easy to begin with, so i know how hard it is for people who are just starting out.
There are hundreds of options out there for small businesses, from builders such as Wix and Squarespace, to DIY options such as Wordpress.
So what is the best option to take for your business ?
Do I Need A Website For My Business?
You may be asking yourself this question, unsure of whether it’s actually necessary for you to have a website for your business. Depending on the nature of your business, i would always recommend you to have a website.
I am a freelancer who hasn’t actually got any new customers from my website, but it has helped me turn leads into clients.

2. Where Do i Start?
You don’t have to pay a lot for a new website. Many options allow you to create your website yourself and have full control over your content - paying just a monthly fee to keep it live.
If you aren’t comfortable building your own, you can hire a freelancer to build it for you.
3. What is SEO?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation - is the method of optimising your website for search engines. This turns it from being a place you send customers for information into something with the potential to bring in new customers.
This is done by find out what people are searching for to find your services/ products and placing them throughout the content on your page.
The structure of your website helps too. If you’d rather hire someone to help you with SEO - there are many freelancers that offer this service at an affordable rate.
4. Which Website Builders Are Best for SEO?
In my 6+ years of building websites, i’ve learned which websites do well and how the platform they’re built with affects this.
In my experience, websites built with Wix don’t perform so well. Squarespace does well - it’s how i host this website.
For my clients i go with the best option for SEO which is WordPress. I use wordpress.org (different to wordpress.com!) with separate hosting - this gives full customisation and the best SEO functionalities.

To get started, go to your preferred website building option and start setting up from there. You’ll need a domain name, but most places allow you to purchase one from within the system.
